If you suffer from insomnia, sleep apnea or other sleep
difficulties, we have great news: NW Sleep Health is ready to help.
NW Sleep Health houses six state-of-the-art sleep-study
suites, and is staffed by board-certified sleep specialists for the diagnosis
and treatment of all sleep disorders. This includes insomnia, disrupted sleep,
winter sleepiness (sleepiness increases when sunlight is deceased), daytime
fatigue, and snoring.
"Sleep is crucial to your health and ensuring good sleep is
an important part of your overall health care," says John Glenn, PA-C, a sleep
trained physician assistant, who sees patients in the Sleep Center. According to
John, many people suffer from fatigue and low energy, but do not recognize it as
a sign of a sleep disorder. "After a while, you just forget what it's like to
feel energized," he says." But that's not normal, and it's not healthy. We all
have a right to feel energetic and well."
With the right treatment, many types of sleep problems
literally can be identified and corrected overnight. After treatment, patients
often remark to John, "That's the best night of sleep I've had in years", and "I
can’t believe how much energy I have during the day".
Who should see a sleep specialist?
According to John, if you do not sleep well, that alone is a
valid reason to see a sleep specialist. Snoring can be a sign of struggling to
breathe at night, so you need to let your physician know if you snore and feel
fatigued during the day. In addition, there are five health disorders that are
up to 80% likely to be associated with sleep problems:
o High blood pressure,
o Obesity,
o Depression (especially in winter),
o Type 2 diabetes,
o Congestive heart failure.
If you have any of these conditions, or are just feeling like
you are "run down" no matter how much sleep you are getting, let your physician
know. You also can call the sleep program directly, and
ask to see the sleep specialist. Keep in mind that consults for sleep problems
are covered by insurance plans, as well as overnight testing and treatment
options.
The sleep center is home-like, quiet, and designed to enhance
comfort and relaxation. Please feel free to come in for a tour at any time, if
you are curious as to what a sleep center looks like, and would like to talk to
the Sleep Health team about your specific sleep issues.
Remember: You have a right to feel energized and well, and NW
Sleep Health would love to help to reach this goal. Sleep Well. Live
Well.
