Q: Can I get the flu from the flu shot? A: No. The flu shot is created from an inactivated (dead) flu virus. While it will not cause you to get the flu, the most common side effects are redness/soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever and minor aches. There is also a nasal spray vaccine available (FluMist®), made from a weakened live virus, which may cause mild flu-like symptoms, such as runny nose, fever and headaches. Q: Why don't you offer the inhaled nasal vaccine? A: FluMist® is only recommended for healthy people age 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant. More than half of the patients we treat do not fit into this category. |
