MAMMOGRAPHY

A few facts you need to know:

  • All women are at risk for breast cancer.
  • Your risk for breast cancer increases with age.
  • Breast cancer causes more deaths among women than any other cancer except lung cancer.
  • Your best defense is to find breast cancer early. When breast cancer is found in its earliest stages, the survival rate is much higher.
  • Mammography is one of the tools used in early detection. Breast self exam and physical breast exam by your medical practitioner complete the breast care triangle.

Northwest Primary Care is proud to offer high quality mammography from advanced certified mammographers. We want to make your visit to our breast center as comfortable as possible. You will find the latest equipment and a highly qualified staff to meet your breast care needs.

The Mammography department is required to abide by strict standards set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). The equipment and the professional staff undergo stringent annual inspections to insure a quality exam to you the patient.

NWPC, the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation recommends the following guidelines for your breast health care: Begin your breast self exam by age 20. The more familiar you are with the "normal" look and feel of your breasts the more quickly we can act on changes that may occur. Have your breasts examined by your health care provider every 3 years at age 20 and annually at age 40. Finally have a screening mammogram by age 40. Women under age 40 with either a family history of breast cancer or other concerns about their personal risk should consult their medical practitioner.

After you have had your mammogram, the films are interpreted by our team of Radiologists who have advanced education in interpreting mammographic exams. The results are then communicated directly to you and to your medical practitioner.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your breast health care, or would like to schedule an appointment, please call the mammography department
