Approach to Patient Care
My philosophy is to care for every patient as if they were part of my family. I want to ensure that if I am allowed the privilege to be a partner in someone’s healthcare, that they have the same commitment, attention, and respect I would give to those closest to me. As a clinician, ensuring I have met my patient's needs according to their wishes and abilities is of the utmost importance to me.
I also do my best to teach and support health prevention and maintenance and make health education a top priority for my patients and their families. Depending on the concern, I feel it is essential for people to understand what is happening in their body, the disease process, the options for treatment, and the plan of care. I truly believe and know from personal experience that the more a patient understands, the less daunting the healthcare process can be.
I began my career working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital. Eventually, I decided to shift focus to family medicine and worked for Northwest Primary Care as an RN for 13 years. I found my ultimate passion in family medicine at NWPC! Having the privilege to care for an entire family is such a gift, and is why I made the decision to attend the University of Portland’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program and become a family nurse practitioner. I have continued to focus much of my time and studies on pediatric and women’s healthcare, but I also hold a special place in my experience and practice for the rest of life’s spectrum.
I am a wife and mom of two awesome kids! My favorite pastime with them is watching my daughter dance and play volleyball, helping my son catch bugs and watching him play basketball, and catching a Netflix series or documentary with my husband once the kids are fast asleep. I also love to hike around the many trails in the pacific Northwest, and I love making new gluten-free recipes for myself and my daughter to try.
