Your Home for Sports Medicine
An injury that does not get the right attention early tends to become a bigger problem later. A sprain that is not properly evaluated. A concussion that is cleared too quickly. A chronic pain pattern that gets managed around rather than addressed.
Sports medicine at Northwest Primary Care is built around getting you the right evaluation from the start, whether you are a competitive athlete, a recreational runner, or someone dealing with a work-related injury that is keeping you from doing what you need to do.

Concussion Care
Concussions are among the most mishandled injuries in sports medicine. Returning to play too quickly after a concussion carries real risks, both for immediate safety and for long-term neurological health.
NWPC sports medicine providers follow established return-to-play protocols based on clinical evaluation, not just symptom resolution. If your child has sustained a head injury during a game or practice, getting a proper evaluation before they return to activity is not optional. It is the right call. Our pediatric and adolescent care team works closely with sports medicine when young patients need coordinated follow-up after a head injury.
Sports Physicals and Pre-Participation Exams
Annual sports physicals are required for most school and club athletic programs. At NWPC, sports physicals are thorough, not a rubber stamp. Your provider reviews cardiovascular health, musculoskeletal function, and any history of prior injury that deserves attention before a new season begins.
For student athletes, establishing care at NWPC means that sports physicals, injury treatment, and ongoing health management happen in one connected place. Your athletic history stays part of your medical record.
Connected to Physical Therapy
One of the advantages of sports medicine at NWPC is direct access to our physical therapy team. When your sports medicine provider determines that physical therapy is part of your recovery or injury prevention plan, that referral happens within the same practice.
Your physical therapist and your sports medicine provider share an electronic health record. Your treatment plan is coordinated, your progress is visible to both providers, and your care does not get lost between two separate offices.

Youth and Adolescent Athletes
Young athletes have specific injury considerations. Growth plates that are still developing. Training loads that may not match physical readiness. Pressure to return to activity before an injury is fully healed.
NWPC sports medicine providers approach youth athletes with those factors in mind. Clearance decisions are made based on clinical judgment, not on the schedule of an upcoming game. If a young athlete needs more time, that conversation happens directly with the patient and with the family. For ongoing health needs beyond sports medicine, our pediatric and adolescent care team is part of the same practice.
Injury Prevention
Not every sports medicine visit is about an existing injury. Movement assessments, biomechanical evaluations, and targeted strength and flexibility work can identify patterns that lead to injury before they result in one.
If you are training for a specific event, returning to activity after time off, or noticing recurring discomfort in the same area, a sports medicine evaluation is worth scheduling before it becomes something more serious.

Same-Day Availability
Acute injuries do not always happen at convenient times. For non-emergency concerns, call our scheduling team at 503.659.4988, and we will find you an appointment as promptly as possible.
If you are an established patient, our scheduling team will do everything possible to make a same-day care appointment with your primary care provider.
